MITRE source definition

An autonomous AI agent may identify a software vulnerability and develop or materially adapt an exploit capability with limited human direction. The agent may analyze source code, documentation, service behavior, and error responses to infer a vulnerability and the conditions required to exploit it.

The agent may formulate and test vulnerability hypotheses, generate probes or payloads, interpret the results, and revise its approach through repeated action-observation cycles. It may combine multiple weaknesses into an exploit chain or package the resulting capability for later use. Validation may establish that the exploit produces the intended access, code execution, or other technical effect. The vulnerability may be publicly known or previously unknown.

MITRE case studies

These are explicit source relationships, not independently reproduced incidents or validated detection coverage.

Simulation and telemetry boundary

This is a technique reference page, not a runnable simulation. No ATLAS-specific telemetry mapping, local attack execution or detector validation is asserted. MITRE maturity describes its source evidence, not a 1200km lab result.

For broader context—not technique-specific control mappings—see AI Security, AI Security Course, and detection-validation methodology.
